Analysis of North by NorthWest

Analysis of the Trailer

This is my analysis of the trailer from the Hitchcock film North by NorthWest, here are some images of parts of the clips included in the trailer.

The trailer for the film North by NorthWest last for at least 2min, this is a fairly decent time for a trailer as it means that not to much content of the actual film is shown and not to little is informed. Furthermore North by NorthWest trailer has included a variety of small clips containing elements of action, romance and thriller like the scene of Rodger O. Thornhill being shot. These small clips with these interesting elements will be likely to captivate the viewers attention as most viewers desire to see those themes in a film. However since the trailer is not very long, it's likely that the audience who come across the trailer will want to see more. This is done in North by North west trailer by leaving the viewers off a cliff after every scene with action.

Another attractive component of the trailer is the narrators summarisation, during the scenes the narrator summarises most of the story but while doing this he exaggerates and manipulates. As an example he tells the audience that there is a "Deadly game of Tag" this itself appeals to customers as it hints strong elements of chase with action. Finally in the trailer of North by NorthWest, clips of Rodger O. Thornhill nearing his death is represented and it's shown in various cases however before the viewer sees the outcome they are cut off. This as I said leaves the viewers at a cliffhanger and gives them a decision to either go and see what happens next or not to go.
