Gender Representation in Mad Man

In Mad Man, gender representation is thoroughly portrayed. It is first hinted in the scene with Don Draper, Pete Campbell and Peggy Olson. Within the scene Don Draper get's sexually persuaded to stand up for Peggy Olson, this occurs after  Pete's vulgar description of the secretary Peggy Olson which created a chain reaction leading Don Draper to see Peggy's appealing ankle's. Don Draper acts upon the occurrence by sending his new secretary out afterwards he informs Pete that he's actions were disgusting, as a result Don Draper appeared to become more powerful and dominant over Pete. On the side note, as soon as the scene begins, and Pete enters Don's Room he calls Peggy a "little fellow" this in tales that Peggy is not seen as important towards the men and that she is only there with them as the men's personal object of desire. This fact is also shown in the scene in the strip club where Pete Campbell tries to entice the other ladies for his own personal pleasure however the lady Pete entice's tries to save herself by leaving with her friends, this suggest that if she was alone she would be more vulnerable than she already was, when she was temporarily groped by Pete Campbell.

Secondly In the Mad Man there was a scene where Peggy tried to attract Don Draper, she tried to attract Don Draper by thanking him for standing up for her and touching his hands. Peggy Olson did this because she felt that it is the only method for her to prestige in her ranks in life, however this sadly portrayed her as a tramp and was told by Don Draper that what she was doing was wrong and that if she did things, like those to her boss she would lose a job. This shows how even though Don does feel sexual attraction towards her, he uses he's power to toy with her and embarrass her. He also treated her as if she was crazy which reflects that she and other women during the 1960's were desperate for power and would potentially do anything to strive and survive in their everyday life.

In conclusion the film Mad Man represents gender stereo typically based upon the real life situations during the 1960's. It shows how the men  are in power and how the women are under command by those who have power. It also display the impurity the men face in their lives and how both men and women will sometimes act recklessly when desperate or emotional.
