Analysis of Opening Scene in Casino Royale
This is my analysis of Casino Royale's opening scene, I aim to represent how this opening uses techniques of Mise-en-scene to portray and single character with two personalities. In other words I will be explaining how James Bond is similar to a coin which has two sides.
In the opening scene of Casino Royale, James Bond is depicted as a character with two sides of a coin. This is clearly pointed out with the help of the contrast of brightness from the first location and the second. In the first location where it's dark, James Bond surprises the former British agent by revealing himself in the shadows. This reflects James Bonds personality to be quiet sinister and soulless which as a result suggest that James Bond is hiding his true emotions and is acting professionally, furthermore unlike the other location James Bond finishes his target immediately. This shows he has no mercy and that he is full filling his role as a 007 agent by not presenting any expression during his mission.
On the other hand in the Second location we see how James Bond is taking much longer to complete his task in fact he is struggling, this is shown through his facial expression and through the messiness of his operation. This indicates how he's not hiding his emotions where on the other hand he was, furthermore through his expressions we can see that he not only is struggling to accomplish his goal but he is hesitant and un confident about it. Which means he doesn't like what he is doing in turn reflecting the side of him which is more human and less robotic like a machine fulfilling goals without delays.
