Title Sequence

A film which has an effective title sequence would be a film called Splice. Splice is a thriller and therefore it's title sequence is themed towards thrilling it's audience through methods which create fear and tension. The production company of the film Splice is the Warner Bros. Pictures. After looking at their title sequence I have analysed that their title sequence works well to invoke elements of a thriller. Their title sequence looks as if it's somewhere dark and deep under water where no one can help or find you, this creates a sense of fear for it's viewers and gives a slight taste for what the film has to offer. Furthermore they also have very daunting music in the background this helps to enhance the feeling of fear and helps build tension within the audience building up to the opening of the thriller. Furthermore the title's fit the genre of the film because they fade in and out like ghost and most ghost films fit in the genre of a thriller. Here are some images of Splices title sequence. Before the film shows how the Warner Bros. Pictures presents Splice it shows other companies who helped int the creation of the film such as Gaumont and Dark Castle Entertainment. It doesn't begin naturally after the films ident with the production company presenting the film straight away like it would with how other films order their titles in their title sequence.

The second film I chose was North by North West. This is a popular film however it's title sequence is very unique. Metro Goldwyn Mayer are the production company for North by North West this is shown clearly as it appears before the revealing of the title sequence. At the beggining of the title sequence you can already hear how it relates to it's genre of being a thriller, it starts of with music the begins building up with louder and more exciting sounds. Like scenes in a thriller it reflects fast paced and up beat action ones that give you goosebumps. However North by North West's title sequence does more than succeed on the musical side, It begins with lines crossing over eachother later on you begin too see it look like the surface of a skyscraper. This immitates very high heights whilst helping to convey their titles immitating an elevator. their titles go up and down whilst it's counter weight goes the opposite direction. This immediately helps to give an idea of what the film is about as it inlfuences the audience to visualise buildings which are commonly used by business men. The title's in this film come before the opening scenes but as it progresses it does a graphic match of reflections on the windows of a skyscraper and the busy road and traffic. Later when it nearly ends the background of the title sequence changes and shows the street in which a normal person who lived in new york would see during the 1950s. The order of the titles starts of with the production company which I explained was the MGM whilst the second thing to come up was not the name of male star Cary Grant and then after that the female star Eva Marie Saint. In North by North West's title sequence the directors name is shown at the end of the title sequence where the opening scene of the thriller begins. Here are some images of North by North West's title sequence.

The last title sequence I will be showing you will be from a game called the Last of Us. It's title sequence definately screams a thriller as it possesses news cast in the background during it's presentation of the thriller. This is a great idea as it gives players a audible idea of what the game might be about. The last of Us title sequence is done in black and white, this helps it's genre as it represents the past. It's title sequence begins with the games title and after it shows the name of the game director and the creative director. Immediately we can see that it's order of title's is different from the order of a films title sequence but this is expected as it's title sequence is from another platform. The title sequence of The Last of Us is done before the opening scene of it's gameplay. Here are some images of The Last of Us title sequence.
