Speed of Editing
In a film, music video or TV show speed editing is used with precaution to help the audience know where they are and what is happening. For example in all films, the beginning or opening must be edited long enough so that the people watching are able to understand the start of the story and what it's all about. Speed editing is used in these areas to help create emotions and to keep the audience engaged by changing the length of the clip to it's suitable size. When the clips sizes are changed it helps to create an idea towards the audience of how much time has passed and how much time hasn't passed. Speed Editing can be used in many ways for many reasons but the main reason is to keep the flow of the whole clip smooth and understandable.
Style of editing is the movement from one clip to another, for example dissolves, fades, straight cuts, and jump cuts. Style of editing is very important when making films as it is the key component which helps to create and emphasis the elements that the film is trying to portray e.g. when travelling in time you may fade and even put the clip in black and white. On the other hand straight cuts are used to continue one clip with another making two clip into one whereas jump cuts are often scene as discontinuity edits due them making the audience feel uncomfortable seeing that part of the clip in the middle was taken away and now it seems as though the object or person in the clip moved unnaturally. In conclusion all these types of style editing are used to aid the theme of the film, music video, TV show or YouTube video.
